Adoption Services QLD
About
In Queensland, the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women is responsible for post adoption support and services. Information can be obtained through Adoption Services QLD including the identity of adopted persons and birth parents.
Copies of relevant documents can be provided to adopted persons or birth parents. To obtain information you will need to complete an application and provide ID.
Those eligible to request information in Queensland about a past adoption include birth parents, adopted people, adoptive parents, eligible relatives and birth siblings.
Adoption Services QLD also runs a mailbox service. This allows people involved in adoption to exchange non identifying information about each other. This may come in handy when a person does not wish to be contacted, but is willing to exchange information.
Non identifying information such as family medical history can be requested regardless of whether a contact statement is in place. The department can make these requests on your behalf.
