Australian Red Cross
About
The Australian Red Cross can help you with tracing members of your family worldwide in certain situations. Some of those being war, migration and disasters. They are part of a global network operating in over 180 countries, with established links and people on the ground in many regions. In addition to tracing, they may also be able to assist with opening up a line of communication between family members, confirming detention and checking on the welfare of a relative.
The services are provided free of charge.
During the financial period 2003-2004, Australian Red Cross handled 1,650 cases for people desperate to restore family links. This included 715 new enquiries received from partner National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world. During this period 596 cases were closed, with 293 (56 per cent) having been successfully resolved.
