Origins Australia
About
Origins Australia, also known as the Forced Adoption Support Network, is an organisation dedicated to addressing the impacts of past adoption practices in Australia. Founded in 1995 by mothers who lost children to adoption, Origins focuses on researching the legal, historical, social, and psychological effects of adoption, including mental health disorders and issues related to child separation. The organisation also explores foster care, institutional care, and Aboriginal child removal.
With branches in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, and New Zealand, Origins has been active in contributing to Senate and Parliamentary inquiries, academic research, and exhibitions. Despite being unfunded by federal, state, or church entities, Origins relies on memberships and donations to support its advocacy work. The organization maintains a significant resource library considered a national asset, which aids in holding governments accountable for past unlawful practices.
